The Colorful Industry of Fashion

 Fashion
The fashion industry is global. Major manufacturing centers are in China, South Korea, Spain, Germany, Brazil, and India. The United States has an international reputation in fashion along with France, Italy, and the United Kingdom. Fashion ranges from high end, haute couture (French: high sewing or high dressmaking), and everyday wear. In the United States, the majority of fashion houses (commercial companies) are located in New York. Los Angeles has a significant amount of high fashion clothing manufacturers. The United States notably fashion icons are Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Vera Wang, Anna Sui, Kenneth Cole, Marc Jacobs, and Michael Kors (just to name a few).

Designers
Fashion design is the art of the application of design and artistic taste or natural beauty to clothing and accessories.  Designers may have different design practices. Some sketch their ideas on paper, while others drape fabric on a mannequin. If not done by the designer, himself or herself, the designer calls upon a professional pattern cutter to who will make the design to be tested on a model. This method is the most common way in the industry. Fashion Designers have a wide range of patterns and styles to choose from. The unusual garments designed are typically for special occasions such as evening wear or party dresses.

Fashion Modeling
A fashion model wears and displays various types of clothes at fashion shows and in photographs. Fashion modeling involves walking a runway (catwalk) at a fashion show, editorial modeling, photography for magazines spreads, ad campaigns, catalogues, print, and etc. The traditional height and size of a female fashion model is 5 ft 7 in to 6 ft 0 in and 34-24-34 (girls who typically wear a size 0). This industry is well suited for male fashion models as well. The preferred height and size for male models are 6 ft 1 in to 6 ft 3 in, waist 28-33 in, and chest 36-41 in. There are some variances in height and size depending if the model is modeling editorial or runway.
